BUSY….BUSY….BUSY
Payback. Game 26 - 2010 Buchholz (Sox) vs. Saunders (Angels)
Last night’s game was wild. Certainly more entertaining that the last match-up between the Red Sox and Angels on October 11, 2009 “Black Sunday”….
The Sox bats were swinging, and Bill Hall made himself useful…and made a liar out of me too! Lots of Homeruns & doubles…Youkilis hit his 5th HR.
I am told that the team got reamed by a furious Theo & company pregame. There were scouts, official suits & radar guns and laptops (more than usual in my section)….so changes are coming.
It was the beginning of Marine Week in Boston, and they were in full force at Fenway on Monday night, in the stands, and a group of recruits took their oath in front of the Fenway crowd pregame.
(Wednesday May 5th Nomar Garciaparra will be honored at Fenway pregame, and the Red Sox Home Base Day will take place on Friday May 7th)
The flat screen tv’s were tuned to the Bruins & Celtics games…as Boston’s TRIFECTA unfolded for us all to see and enjoy on a beautiful night. Around the 7th inning, when the Bruins game wrapped-up, the huge screen on the electronic scoreboard replayed highlights of the playoff hockey game between innings, and the final score (3-2) for us all to cheer about. And as our game finished at Fenway, so did the Celtics game in Cleveland, and that was played on the tv’s also. It was a very exciting night for sports fans in New England to be sure.
I just want to mention how really polite the Los Angeles/Anaheim Angels were, they are really a class act……I even saw skipper Mike Soscia take BP with his team! Impressive.
We are still in 4th place in the AL East right now, and there is a lot of work to be done, but I just want to say that, if they play like they did last night…or close to it – we will vault to the top soon enough. Always keep a positive attitude, and have faith in the Sox.
Peace, Love & Baseball.

Welcome To Boston Darnell

After a miserable rainy cold weekend, the Boston Red Sox had a streak going, and it wasn’t pretty. A five-game losing streak that was sinking the ship fast. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was Boston’s worst regular season start since 1932.

Masterson Will Be Missed

Boy wonder, Boston Red Sox resident preacher and bull pen ray of sunshine Justin Masterson has been traded to the Cleveland Indians on Friday July 31st.
Born in Jamaica, the tall farmboy with a rocket arm and a heart of gold did a post-trade interview with NESN Friday afternoon in Baltimore saying how sad he was to be leaving Boston and his team, but understanding that baseball is a business. He took some pride in the fact that he was traded for the likes of a player of Victor Martinez’s caliber. Masterson is known for his modesty, he has tremendous potential and is only beginning his illustrious career in the majors. I look forward to following his career as a baseball fan, and as a fan of Justin Masterson as an individual.
In my personal opinion, it was a mistake to trade our golden boy for a catcher we did not need. We had the need for pitching and shortstop players, not 1st base and catching. And the scouts for the Cleveland Indians are no dummies, they did not want Buchholz, who we tried to jam down their throats, they demanded more – they wanted Justin Masterson. Why didn’t you just say NO Theo?

Not The Perfect Beginning
So far, the 2009 Baseball season for my Red Sox has not been great. Thanks to the World Baseball Classic, we are short some of our best players. Can’t they have the Classic right BEFORE the Spring Training season starts, so it does not interfere with getting the MLB teams ready for a long, grueling season?
Some publications have called the Sox the “Walking Wounded” this year, because of the signings that Theo Epstein made in the offseason to beef-up our lineup. I am beginning to agree with that nickname. Calm-down Red Sox Nation, I am in no way saying that the team will not be great…..I believe it will be great, when they get together in one place.
NESN is not airing very many games this preseason (nor is MLB free). And by the final scores of the games played, they are not at “Great” status yet. The kids they are throwing together as a team in Florida are not doing so hot, and the bargains that were picked-up to help (Kotsay, Penney & Smoltz) are not yet ready to play. And to rub salt on the wound, the playing status of some of our best players is fairly uncertain. Mike Lowell still has not played, so hopefully he will return to his exceptional infield/slugger status by season-opener. J D Drew got his shot, and will hopefully return to greatness soon, because he is a dangerous hitter when healthy! And let us not forget David Ortiz and his legendary swing, and our Ace Josh Beckett hopefully returning to greatness in 2009. Let’s face it, that’s a lot of Hopefully’s !! Oh, and hopefully Bay, Youkilis, Pedroia, Lopez and Matsuzaka will not be exhausted from playing in the WBC when they get back to City Of Palms Park.
On the positive side, Varitek’s swing has improved, as has his throw. Bard is working-out well as a backup catcher. Lester is doing great, as is Masterson…in whatever role Tito puts him in. Papelbon is consistently excellent, and Lugo appears to be ready to go on Opening Day.
You may have noticed that I have left out some players from this blog, because I may have nothing to report on them, or perhaps I do not care about them very much. But since they are playing the kids so much while waiting for our real team to get back together, keep an eye on Mike Bowden, Dan Bard and Lars Anderson….they are really a joy to watch.
Can’t wait for the little league play to end, and for all the boys to reunite and practice some big boy baseball. Opening Day is only a month away!!
